Our Philosophy

|
We saw a need in Lyttelton after the earthquakes to provide small footprint, warm, homes that spoke to the past in streetscape and roof lines but were contemporary in the way the layout enabled open-plan living in small spaces.
Your first experience of the cottage is that its spacious and gentle atmosphere is conducive to a modern way of life, providing solace and inspiration for everyone under its roof.

Space planning
|
|
Our cottages are small, and have high cathedral ceilings that create an illusion of space. We have incorporated a loft that can be either a guest sleeping space, a kids play area or a meditation area away from the living space. The careful planning allows for a guest toilet and a laundry in some designs, while others have the washing machine in the kitchen cabinetry.
The Orchard Subdivision

The Orchard land is part of one of the oldest orchards in New Zealand. We are lucky to have old specimen fruit trees that are prolific in production and gracious in stature. Our vision for the future for this unique piece of land is to enable 5 families to enjoy the ancient trees and be able to have enough space to grow their own food amongst the original orchard. As well as enjoying a warm, modern cottage.
Natural Interiors and Insulation
The timber we choose for our cottages is mostly New Zealand grown - macrocarpa and Douglas Fir - and hand picked from the supplier to produce our beautiful ceilings full of knots and character. We also use Terra Lana wool insulation that is a New Zealand product. It's a healthy insulation to work with and have in the walls of our buildings. The joinery is double glazed aluminium. |

The Orchard Subdivision,
Introducing our long house design.
Nearly 5 metres wide, and designed to sit on a slope while limiting excavation
The Long House design is suited to hill sites, and was created to enable site development without creating flat sites and keeping retaining walls to a minimum height.
Lot One
We're creating spaces for happy clientsThe Orchard Subdivision has five lots which are all unique and provide beautiful views of the harbour and beyond. Each home is designed for the site, so although the houses all have similarities they all offer a sincerity to the site that speaks to the towns history and future as a place that celebrates individuality.

" Im loving my new home, it's been an easy transition from family home to cottage because of the spaciousness and the exposed timber makes it feel so warm and homely."
